Audio Visual Materials
Many CDs comprising of nursery rhymes, storytelling aids and other titles for primary classes are available for the teachers. The faculty members also use subject based CDs in Science as well as Mathematics as an aid to their classroom teaching. Globes, geometry boxes, large sized books and flap books are also other teaching aids stocked in the library.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is now part of the educational experience worldwide and regarded as a new ‘literacy’ alongside reading, writing and numeracy. Cambridge ICTCurriculum gives the PCS learners a flexible framework to develop learners’ ICT competence. Modules can be delivered according to the needs of each learning situation and age of the learners – across the curriculum or as a separate course of study. Learners will develop key ICT skills in a range of applications including word processing, computer graphics, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet, presentations, video/animation and web authoring. They also consider wider issues such as internet safety and adapting their work to the audience.
The vast collection of over 15,000 volumes is mainly comprised of textbooks, reference books, fiction titles, periodicals and audiovisual material like CDs and VCDs. Separate areas house the collection of syllabus-based textbooks (according to classes), fiction titles (primary and secondary) as also periodicals and audio visual materials.
Syllabus-based textbooks from different authors help the students to self-study the subject in greater detail and also help the teachers to teach the subjects from different angles and give extra information on any given topic.
A large number of fiction titles by leading authors such as Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, Robin Cook, Arthur Clarke, Ruskin Bond, etc are available until primary sections.
Reference titles assisting the teachers in their teaching as well as in preparing their study material and worksheets are provided. Latest foreign publications in different subjects help the teachers to update their knowledge.
Each classroom houses a large area and is designed such that every student gets the teacher’s maximum individual attention.There are over 10 classrooms for regular teaching alone and a number of other rooms like the Audio-Visual rooms and Resource rooms to facilitate better learning.Well-ventilated with huge windows, they offer the right atmosphere for learning. The white boards and bulletin boards placed at vantage points, make learning easier and interesting.The strength of each class is kept at a manageable level and comfortable furniture adds to the ambience of the classroom.
A collection of nearly 2000 titles inclusive of Encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, thesaurus etc. are available to the students and the teachers for their day-to-day teaching and assignment work.
The library is the main resource centre for the students and the faculty at The Purple Crayon School. It offers a collection of a wide variety of reading resources covering both fiction & non-fiction that will enhance the student's passion for reading.
This special reading programme encourages the children to read recommended library books. A book review of a few lines is submitted by the student after reading every book which is displayed on the bulletin board in the library.
